![]() ![]() ![]() I previously had the experience of a slight burning sensation during product application with the derma-roller I had very likely broken my skin with it. I applied my products next, and once again there wasn’t any discomfort. Instead, my skin felt ready for the rest of my skincare routine. It left no redness or discomfort on my skin unlike my past experience with a derma-roller. With this method, I covered my entire face and neck in five minutes and because there’s no direct contact, it made me feel like I was waving a magic wand over my skin it was something fun to do, considering how this device was also performing its “magic” on the skin! One of the recommended methods to use the ATS Air Shot was the sweeping method where you “sweep” the device across your skin without applying any direct contact to it. The device was easy to use, with just one button for switching on, as well as adjusting the intensity. What’s more, I liked that it was able to achieve absolute safety because the electrical stimulation from the device reaches only to the epidermal layer of the skin. This was why the first thing that surprised me about the ATS Air Shot was that you can apply it contact-free, and it was completely pain-free. I hopped on the bandwagon of MTS by getting my hands on a derma-roller a few years ago when it first became trendy, but quickly gave up because it was painful and I felt that it wasn’t hygienic doing it by myself at home, where I didn’t have a proper sanitation system. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some books introduce diversity for the sake of having diverse characters, but you never feel that way when reading The Lunar Chronicles. I don’t want to spoil anything, but in Stars Above/Winter, Meyer introduces concepts on how the world is going to progress. ![]() In the later books we also get to see the hierarchy in the moon colony and how things are set up. It’s not confusing, and the hierarchy is clear in the novels. or C.E.) and you learn about the Commonwealth and other countries. It’s set in the future with a new age name (like B.C. Unlike other novels which weren’t clear on how the world got to how it is, the Lunar Chronicles give us snippets we can piece together. You learn about a moon colony full of mind-controlling Lunars, that the Earth is divided into 6 uber-large countries, and that there’s a deadly plague called letumosis going around. She doesn’t do an info dump on us, trying to squeeze all the world building in, but rather gives it to us in easily digestible segments throughout the novel. It’s crazy how Meyer introduces us to the entire world + moon colony. (There is one scene in Scarlet that’s questionable on whether it is or isn’t a sex scene, but it’s so subtle I didn’t notice it when I read it the first time.) ![]() The lines are pretty clear set based on their fairytales, though you’re free to ship whoever you want.Īnother plus that’s related to this number is how because romance isn’t the focus, there are no sex scenes as mentioned above, which is why it’s great for teens of all ages. Nevertheless, the romance works as a wonderful plot device, and you know who your ships are from the beginning. It’s refreshing to see how in The Lunar Chronicles the romance is put on the backburner and there’s no last minute “Oh we’re about to die, let’s have sex!” kind of thing. Honestly, so many YA novels have the main leads obsess over romance even though there are so many other issues to deal with (aka imminent death). One of my favorite parts of The Lunar Chronicles is how I don’t have to stress myself over petty romance issues while the main characters are about to be killed. They won’t be cowering when faced with evil queens, that’s for sure. Whether it’s Cinder and her fantastic mind for mechanics, Scarlet with her strength and loyalty, Cress and her hacking skills, or Winter and her noble heart, these women show true strength in their actions. The female leads come from a variety of backgrounds, but are all around resilient and bad-ass. With an amazingly developed world like the one Meyer writes, there’s no telling what to expect!Ī *incoherent mumbling* and cyborg-mechanic? Check!Ī French farm girl with sick defense skills? Check!Ī dreaming hacker who lives in a satellite? Check!Ī slightly mad princess with mind control skills? Check, check, check! Naturally, this can make the plot somewhat predictable, but that doesn’t mean Meyer doesn’t throw some pretty awesome (and justified!) plot twists at you. Not only are the stories interwoven beautifully, but we also get to see how Meyer’s twists on the tales add to the storyline. In The Lunar Chronicles we get to read the stories of Cinder (Cinderella), Scarlet (Little Red Riding Hood), Cress (Rapunzel), and Winter (Snow White). Unfortunately, I can’t write full fledged reviews for the 6 books because the stories aren’t super fresh in my brain, but I can give you guys tons of reasons why you should read them! To tone down my fangirl-ish-ness so you’re not overwhelmed, here’s my top ten! These books by Marissa Meyer are what really brought me from reading MG fiction to YA & started my borderline-unhealthy love for books. The Lunar Chronicles is one of my all-time favorite book series. ![]() ![]() There’s just an incredible amount of variety in the enemy design, and it works hand in hand with both the level design and Shadow’s upgrades to ensure that Cyber Shadow is consistently fresh and challenging. Most have multiple spots where they can be hit, and they change their behavior depending on what part of their body you break others are seemingly impenetrable until you’re able to use Shadow’s projectile parry to stop their bullets and send them flying right back towards them and others still fly at you from awkward angles, forcing you to reposition before you’re able to take them out. Needless to say, Cyber Shadow becomes quite difficult, but it's a difficulty that always felt manageable once I’d learned the various quirks and nuances of the many enemies that patrol each chapter. A lot is thrown at you all at once, often while forcing you to deal with some other sort of environmental nightmare, like: orbital laser beams, a creeping mass of instant-kill spikes, a rising elevator that threatens to squish you below instant-kill spikes, or security lasers that, when tripped, will activate extra enemy robots and turrets that mercilessly hunt you down. Some of the best moments came when I was able to dash my way across a level without ever touching the ground.Īll throughout Cyber Shadow’s campaign, it never feels like it’s running out of ideas, and I found myself uniquely challenged by each new chapter even as my abilities and strengths grew. Sprinting gives you the ability to use a super-fast dash slice that can go right through enemies and obstacles, allowing you to use it both as a devastating attack and to reach new areas – sometimes even both at the same time. It’s at this point where it metamorphosizes from a Ninja Gaiden-esque larva state and becomes entirely its own beast. Essence and SpiritĬyber Shadow really hits its stride just a little more than halfway through, once you gain the ability to sprint. It’s a super fun and creative weapon to use, and I wish I was given more opportunity to do so than the one chapter it’s available in. Or if there’s an enemy straight ahead, you can also strike the blade with your sword to give it some instant forward momentum and take them out from a distance. So if there’s an enemy above you that you can’t hit with your sword, you can simply jump in place until the Swag Blade gets enough momentum to bounce up and down and reach it. ![]() ![]() This monster tethers a saw blade to your character that can be manipulated through your momentum. My absolute favorite powerup, though, is the aptly named Swag Blade. These powerups are especially cool because they’re almost always specifically designed to be especially useful in the upcoming section for example, a shield that can block projectiles from the front right that becomes available before a particularly bullet-hellish encounter. If that’s not enough, you can spend a currency called essence to unlock permanent upgrades for that specific checkpoint that will either restore your magic or provide you with a powerup when you respawn from there. This limited moveset is a large part of what drives the challenge in the early goings because enemies and obstacles approach from all angles but you can only hit things that are directly in front of you (much like in, you guessed it, Ninja Gaiden).Ĭyber Shadow's gameplay really hits on all fronts.īut this is a modern take on old-school design, and it comes with modern assists to help smooth the hard edges a little: checkpoints not only give you a respawn point but also restore your health when you step on them. Your set of tools begins very modestly: Shadow can jump and can slash his sword horizontally, and. It really hits on all fronts: level design, enemy design, enemy variety, character progression, boss battles – it’s all top notch. Where Cyber Shadow does deliver, however, is in its gameplay. ![]() Progen, your master, or the members of your clan he holds captive. There’s little reason to care about the evil Dr. Shadow himself is a mute protagonist, and with one notable exception (who’s gone all too quickly) all of the characters he interacts with largely feel like they exist solely to be exposition dumps. Its big weakness is that there’s just very little personality to any of it. It’s a serviceable story at best, told through both in-game dialogue boxes and nostalgic 8-bit cutscenes with large, detailed, but still very low-res sprites, much like the NES Ninja Gaiden games. Cyber Shadow puts you into the pixelated ninja boots of the titular (cyber) Shadow, who awakens from an incubation pod to find a destroyed city that’s been overrun by out-of-control machines. ![]() ![]() ![]() Janet wrote that hysteria was “a nervous disease” where “a dissociation of consciousness” took place, often characterized by symptoms such as somnambulism, the emergence of “double personalities,” and involuntary convulsions. ![]() In France, neuropsychiatrist Pierre Janet, who was most active between the 1880s and the early 1900s, argued that hysteria resulted from a person’s own warped perception of physical illness. Mitchell famously prescribed the rest cure to the American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, who found the experience so harrowing that she wrote “ The Yellow Wallpaper,” a psychological horror story that maps the slow psychological deterioration of a woman who is forced by her doctor, her husband, and her brother to follow this “treatment.” Mitchell prescribed this treatment preferentially to women who he deemed as having hysteria.īy contrast, he would advise men with hysteria to engage in lots of outdoor exercise. ![]() Rest cure involved lots of bed rest and strict avoidance of all physical and intellectual activity. Throughout the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, there was perhaps even more talk of female hysteria and its potential causes.Īround the 1850s, American physician Silas Weir Mitchell, who had a special interest in hysteria, started promoting the “ rest cure” as a “treatment” for this condition. Mesmer alleged that he could act on this magnetic undercurrent and cure humans of various maladies, including hysteria. Mesmer believed that living beings were influenced by magnetism, an invisible current that ran through animals and humans, and whose imbalances or fluctuations could lead to health disruptions. To illustrate this, he presented the case study of a nun affected by hysteria, who became cured only when a well-wishing barber took it upon himself to pleasure her.Īnother means of “treating” instances of hysteria was through mesmerism, an alleged psychosomatic therapy popularized by Franz Anton Mesmer, a German doctor who was active in 18th-century Europe. Some of the hysteria symptoms that he named included: “a swollen abdomen, suffocating angina or dyspnea, dysphagia, cold extremities, tears and laughter, oscitation, pandiculation, delirium, a close and driving pulse, and abundant and clear urine.”ĭe Sauvages agreed with his predecessors that this condition primarily affected women, and that “men are only rarely hysterical.”Īccording to him, sexual deprivation was often the cause of female hysteria. In a treatise published in 1770–1773, another French physician, François Boissier de Sauvages de Lacroix, describes hysteria as something akin to emotional instability, “subject to sudden changes with great sensibility of the soul.” While Raulin noted that both men and women could contract hysteria, women were, according to him, more predisposed to this ailment because of their lazy and irritable nature. In 1748, French physician Joseph Raulin described hysteria as a “vaporous ailment” - affection vaporeuse in French - an illness spread through air pollution in large urban areas. While the original notions of female hysteria extend far into the history of medicine and philosophy, this diagnostic became popular in the 18th century. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What Does Professional Liability Insurance Cover?.What Does Equipment Breakdown Insurance Cover?.What Does Employment Practices Liability Insurance Cover?. ![]() What Does Directors And Officers Liability Insurance Cover?.What Does Cyber Liability Insurance Cover?.What Does Commercial Umbrella Insurance Cover?.What Does Commercial Property Insurance Cover?.What Does Commercial General Liability Insurance Cover?.What Does Commercial Crime Insurance Cover?.What Does A Business Owners Policy Cover?.What Does Business Auto Insurance Cover?.What Is The National Association of Insurance Commissioners?.How Much Does Small Business Insurance Cost?.What Are The Commercial Insurance Requirements For Small Businesses?.Small Business Insurance General Information: You can skip to the following types of small business commercial insurance using these links: Learn about small business insurance requirements, costs and coverages including: Commercial General Liability, Commercial Property Insurance, Workers Compensation, Business Owner's Policy (BOP), Errors & Omissions (professional liability), Commercial Auto Insurance and more.īelow are some answers to commonly asked small business commercial insurance questions: Carrying adequate small business insurance to protect your business shouldn't be a question - it's a must if you want to make sure that you don't get put in a position where you have to lose your business or pay money out of pocket to cover expenses associated with a loss.
